Clinical trials

Clinical trials are scientific investigations conducted under precisely defined and strictly controlled conditions. They serve to develop and test new therapeutic procedures or drugs. The most common form of clinical trial, the clinical testing of drugs, is an investigation conducted in humans that is designed to investigate or demonstrate the clinical or pharmacological effects of drugs or to determine side effects. In addition, there are clinical trials in which medical devices are tested for efficacy and/or reliability.

How can a clinical trial help those affected?

Around one million people in Germany suffer from chronic urticaria. A large proportion of these can be helped with antihistamines. The rest have more or less had to put up with the discomfort in the past. However, more and more patients have been able to benefit from many more clinical trials, and the active ingredient “omalizumab”, for example, is now part of the standard therapy for chronic spontaneous urticaria when patients experience no or only minimal relief with antihistamines.

Clinical studies are therefore essential to find out which disease processes underlie urticaria, how urticaria can best be “measured” or why urticaria often disappears again on its own, which means: Your support matters!
